mediterranean diet

Mediterranean Diet is one that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and low on sugar, saturated fats and red meat.

This is based on the diet typically eaten in the countries around the Mediterranean sea. In these countries, levels of obesity, heart disease and cancer are much lower than those of Western Europe and North America and this is attributed to the simpler diet patterns of the region.

The Mediterranean diet limits dairy products such as beef, milk, cheese and animal fat. Instead you eat fish, skimmed milk, feta cheese, olive oil, and fresh vegetables, salads and fruit. And it’s OK to have a little wine with meals!

The meals can be quite delicious because they are generally not cooked for long and the flavor of the food is preserved.

When you have been on the diet for a while your palate becomes accustomed to the change in diet and you lose your craving for the high-fat, high-sugar diet that made you overweight in the first place.

What Users Say

My husband and I have been on the Mediterranean Diet for nearly a year. It has made a major difference to our lives because we now eat healthily and we feel all the better for it. We are much more active and we have a lot more energy. I’ve lost 30lbs!

I really love the Mediterranean diet! Most of it is common sense: you have to choose healthy fats, healthy carbs and healthy proteins but there’s a lot you can eat and the weight comes off. It’s easy to follow because the rules are so simple…

I like this diet because it so flexible! Very little is actually forbidden and so I’ve found that I can pretty much eat what I like. I am losing about 3lbs a week without trying all that hard!
